The SeriousFun Children’s Network has a global network of camps, one of which being the Barretstown Camp in Kildare. Speaking at the launch Dee Ahearn, CEO of Barretstown said;

“I’m delighted that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon has chosen Barretstown and the SeriousFun Children’s Network as its chosen charity. This half-marathon is all about having fun and so it marries perfectly with our mission that every child suffering with serious illness should be able to have serious fun through our Therapeutic Recreation Programme.  Barretstown needs €4.5 million a year to provide the Barretstown programme which includes top class facilities, training of hundreds of volunteers, providing medical assistance and supporting its new hospital outreach programme.  There is great excitement across the Serious Fun Children’s Network about the half-marathon and we’re all looking forward to putting on our runners and joining in!”

Also featuring at the launch were Dublin GAA legend Ciaran Whelan and one of Ireland’s top models and former Miss Ireland Rozanna Purcell.  Renewing their successful Celebrity Bainisteoir partnership, they have joined forces again to become the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon ‘Ambassadors of Rock’.

Ciaran said;

“As a Dub, I’m both delighted and proud to hear that this unique global running series is coming to our city’s streets. I’ll be running the race on August 5th so I’m hoping the country will get on board and line out in force with me on the 5th of August!”

Also taking part in the event is running and fitness fanatic Rozanna Purcell who added

 “I’ve never heard of a running event like this before. It’s definitely going to be something completely different for the city.  I’ll be pushing Ciaran all the way to make sure he finishes!  I’m big into my music too so I can’t wait to see what bands will be playing along the route as I’m running.”

Music is a key element to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series events, with the focus on finding local talent to keep runners motivated all the way through to the finish. Bands of all genres are invited to submit an application by 15 May to be considered for the official course line up. One lucky band will even be considered a supporting act for the headliner at the Finish Line Festival.

The Finish Line Festival is the culmination of race weekend activity; with a rockin’ concert of live acts to celebrate the finishers’ accomplishments.  In addition, everyone that crosses the line within the allotted time of 3.5 hours will receive a fantastic heavy medal, Brooks technical event T shirt, goody bag and a chip timed result.
